Fenugreek Roti – Thepala

A tasty treat for travel!

Talking about travel season, Fenugreek Roti (Thepala) makes the perfect on the go snack. Made with whole wheat flour (best consumed during the winter season), spices and fried in sesame oil. Roti stay fresh for 5-10 days and are delicious on their own or paired with our Peanut Travel Chutney when you are on the go.

An easy to digest snack that makes you feel good. Perfect!

Due to the heaviness of the wheat flour, Roti makes you feel easily satiated without over burdening the digestive system. This makes for an easy snack to support the minimum needs during travel or on a busy day. Fenugreek Roti- Thepala

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
Total time: 25 Minutes
Servings: 8 people

Ingredients

Preparation
  • 4 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 Cups finely Chopped Fresh Fenugreek Leaves (or 1/2 cup dried)
  • 2 tsp Ginger, Garlic and Chili Paste (as desired)
  • 1 Tbl Sesame Seeds
  • 2 tsp Ajwain (Carom Seed)
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Hing (Asafoetida)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1-2 tsp thick Yogurt (omit for vegan option)
  • Additional oil for pan roasting
  • Water to make thick dough

Instructions

1. Kneed all ingredients.
2. Make small round 3 inch circles.
3. Roast on griddle with a small amount of Sesame oil
4. Carry with Chutney or Curd and enjoy!
5. Stores for 4-5 days.

Those with excess Pitta (sharpness or heat in the system) can substitute fresh cilantro for the fenugreek leaves.
